The CHP Consulting International FAT BLOKE SEVENS 2007

20th - 22nd July - Reading Abbey RFC

Organised by London Irish supporters rugby team, The Flatulent Fairies, the Fat Bloke Sevens Tournament is recognised as the best 'coarse’ rugby event of its kind. Over the years this tournament, giving an opportunity for old, fat, unskilled and talent less rugby players to play sevens rugby, a game normally associated with fit, athletic and svelte masters of rugby, has become an institution - and many of the players are released from their own institutions to come and play. We’re delighted to be sponsored by CHP Consulting for the second year and welcome their support for this event.

This year, the proceeds from the event are going to The Wooden Spoon Society and two charities supported by Neal Hatley, who we hope will be at the tournament to present the trophies in the evening. Neal’s charities are Shooting Star Children’s Hospice and Starfish Greathearts Foundation. As well as Neal, we’re also hoping one or two other surprise guests may come along to support the tournament.

The RFU are providing their inflatable’s again to provide everyone with an opportunity to bounce energy away or warm up for matches. Apparently children like them as well. Punch and Judy is also likely to make an appearance to help entertain children of all ages. We will also have Marie’s Second Hand Shirt Stall, which provides the opportunity to buy some excellent... er... second hand rugby shirts as well as one or two special items, such as signed players shirts etc.

The event is again being hosted by Reading Abbey Rugby Club and everyone is welcome to arrive on the Friday afternoon and set your tent for the weekend. In order to try and create order amongst the usual chaos of the campsite, they will be operating a tent pitch service this year so there will be a £5/tent charge for camping.

We have music on Friday night from The Mulskinners and on Saturday night from JD and the Longfellows so the usual 'social’ side of the event looks like being a Craicer this year. The Friday night will be (optional) Black Tie and Evening wear as last year.

On the rugby side of the event, we’ve had to turn away a lot of teams this year as we remain heavily oversubscribed by teams who want to come and play, but here are the 24 successful teams in their Pools - looks like some old rivalries will be rekindled and some new teams for everyone to worry about:

Pool A
Pool B
Pool C
Pool D

We’ve also got the Ladies tournament with the following teams:

And our very own London Irish Ladies team...

There will be a £5 entry fee on the day, which includes your free program, and the first matches will kick off at 10AM on Saturday 22nd July and we're hoping that trophy presentations of the highly desired bespoke ceramic trophies made by Clare Gosney, will be at about 8PM. We would advise all players, and anyone else who likes a party, to get there on Friday so they can pitch their tent and enjoy the hospitality and party atmosphere which makes this event so special and 'must not miss’ weekend for the summer.

On the Sunday at 11AM, the Bristol Buccaneers will return to take on the Fairy Barbarians in a fifteen-a-side match refereed by Ashley Rowden. All players in the tournament, and anyone who brings their boots on the day, will be able to play for the Fairy Barbarians in their own club shirt for a small donation into the 'bucket’, collecting money for PROPS, and we hope that this proves a little less 'one-sided’ than last year.

If you are unable to make the event but would like to contribute, you can buy one of the exclusive Flatulent Fairy rugby shirts, or, new for this year, a Trumping Tinkerbelle shirt. Details can be found here and ordered by e-mail from Flatulentfairies@aol.com.
